Wildflower Romantic Styled Shoot: Wedding Inspiration at Coyote Hills in Fremont, California
This romantic styled shoot took place in Fremont, California on a beautiful day in late April. With the heavy outpouring of rain this year, the rolling fields were lush, creating a whimsical, wild picture. The concept of this wedding inspiration was centered on the idea of a “Wildflower.” Wildflowers are a symbol of endurance and strength, emerging even in the most unexpected places. It is a nod to the beauty that comes through weathering tough times, a reminder that when all else fades, love is what endures. Organic and delicate details were carefully selected to complement and not overpower the surrounding grasses of the field. Soft, muted touches of beige cream and slate gray tones, were paired with a pop of golden peru hues.
A quiet afternoon was spent getting ready. We snapped a few pictures with the couple’s pup June, before venturing to Coyote Hills to capture the inspiration vow renewal, which took place coincidentally close to the couple’s actual anniversary. A look at the field was a reminder of the line that so beautiful says "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?" The flourishing of the grasses of the fields, the wildflowers, holds a promise of provision.
Each detail was designed with the theme “Wildflower” in mind, using simple and timeless elements. Tastefully designed by Gardens of Grace were invites painted with golden peru ink and phrases written out on vellum with slate gray ink. Two buttercream cakes, one with real hand-picked wildflowers and another with impressionist-style painted flowers, as well as sugar cookies sprinkled with edible flowers were created by Junecakes.
The attire, hair, and makeup was kept classic, simple, with small stunning details. The bride wore a Karen Willis Holmes dress that was carefully beaded with flowers and foliage, featuring a long and flowy drape, perfect to freely move around in. The groom wore a deep navy blue suit with no tie, to go with the carefree feel of the shoot.
Two weeks before the shoot, we were left without our original florist. Determined to still see the shoot through, I scoured my options. Planning the styled shoot that was taking place in Norcal, all the way from LA, added to the stress, but thankfully mom saved the day. I realized that my mom had taken a few floral arranging classes, and was perfectly capable of creating a beautiful arrangement. We found a supplier in Norcal for fresh flowers, and brought dried elements from LA to create the arrangement. Perhaps this seemly less than ideal situation was a nod to the wildflower–left to no formality or structure, the florals somehow came to be with beauty, simplicity, and a touch of wild freedom.
The bridal bouquet and boutonniere were created with the intention of creating a simple and organic feel. Dried elements were paired with fresh, cream toned flowers.
Ultimately, this styled shoot inspiration was created in the efforts to provide not only an aesthetic source of inspiration, but as a reminder that when all else fades, love remains, just as the wildflower, it fights to persevere through unideal conditions.
